For wholesalers and distributors in the UK and Europe, car parts made in Turkey are a practical sourcing option, because both the EU and the UK have a trade arrangement with Turkey that covers industrial goods. Turkey has a long-established automotive industry; Bursa is one of its centres, and MTJ Auto has been manufacturing automotive plastic and trim parts there since 1975.
This guide works through, in order, the questions a buyer asks when considering parts from Turkey for the first time.
Why choose car parts made in Turkey?
Working factory-direct removes the intermediate layers. Because we manage the process in-house from mould design to series production, we control quality and supply directly. We have no minimum quantity per product, so you can start with a small trial on a few lines from your list and grow from there. The customs union between Turkey and the EU also lets industrial goods enter the EU free of customs duty; details are below. For car parts suppliers and wholesale car parts suppliers in the UK, a separate free trade agreement applies, also covered below.
Customs: EU countries and the United Kingdom
A customs union has been in place between Turkey and the EU since 1996. Industrial goods – car parts included – enter the EU free of customs duty with an A.TR movement certificate. The rule is the same for buyers in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Croatia. Import VAT and the customs declaration are still handled in the destination country.
The United Kingdom left that union; since 2021 a separate free trade agreement with Turkey has applied. Here the A.TR does not apply – the agreement’s rules of origin and the origin declaration on the invoice do. For other countries, too, we recommend confirming the applicable agreement and the required document with your customs broker before ordering.
Delivery terms and payment
Stating up front which delivery term you want the quote on ensures both sides read the price the same way. We work with EXW, FCA, FOB, CPT, CIF and DAP; under DAP, freight is included in the quote. For payment, methods that are secure for both sides are used, such as payment in advance, a letter of credit (L/C) or documents against payment.
Mixed loads and minimum quantities
A European wholesaler rarely wants a single product; their list holds dozens of different references. Because we have no minimum quantity per product, you can combine different groups such as pedal rubbers, windscreen washer jets, gear knobs and clips in one shipment. We have 95% stock availability for catalogue products; to keep freight costs down, we agree the shipping method together based on the size of the order.
Preparing for the first order
Three things speed up the quotation process the most:
- A list of your OEM numbers. We match the list you send as Excel, CSV or PDF against our catalogue and separate out the lines we can supply.
- Estimated annual quantity per line. For recurring high-volume lines, production under your own brand also becomes an option.
- The market you sell into. Label language, packaging and shipping documents are prepared accordingly.
Starting with samples is the quickest way to verify dimensions and material in your own warehouse.
You will find our factory-direct supply terms and the application form on the Wholesale and Distribution page. If you would like to sell the products under your own brand, take a look at the Private Label page.
